On 25 and 26 August 2020, two partners from Change2Twin project TNO and Space Structures (SPS) met for a two-day Assessment workshop. The TNO consultants and SPS representatives from the engineering and management team put their heads together to assess the digitalization level from an overall company level down to the details of the business’s product development processes.
SPS’ extensive experience with mathematical models for simulation and its verification as well as correlation with physical hardware matches very well the understanding of the digital twin concept. The workshop concluded with an assessment summary that sets the direction for future digitalization steps in general business processes and discusses opportunities for digital twins to enhance product development processes.
SPS was the first company to get a Change2Twin digitization assessment. The assessment methodology is being developed in cooperation with stakeholders, such as Digital Innovation Hubs. It will be tested with the other three companies providing Change2Twin experiments (proof of concept) so that in the later stage the Assessment methodology can be applied in the first Open Call for the Assessment Voucher.
The German engineering firm Space Structures GmbH is one of the four partners in Change2Twin providing the proof of concept. In their Change2Twin use case they showcases a prosthesis adapter which will be used to study how digital twins support product development, manufacturing and testing of mechanical parts and systems.
